How I've been using blogs...

So far I've used blogs two ways in my classes. First of all, I experimented with student blogs as an extra credit assignment in my CISS243 class (Web/Database Integration). The students were to post twice a week - one post was to be their reflections on the week - what problems they faced, how they solved them, etc. The aim was to increase the students' metacognition. The second post, they had to identify and comment upon a resource relevant to what we were discussing in class. I maintained a blog to model what I expected. It turned out fairly well - were I to do this again, I would give more specific instructions about what I expected.

Here is one of my student's blogs. Here is my blog.

I have also started using blogs for my Work Based Learning students to document their goals and reflections on their work.

A great resources about educational technology in general and educational blogging specifically is teachnology.

A recent post includes links to how Harvard, Stanford and the University of Minnesota are using blogs.

Welcome

Welcome!
Hello. My Innovative Learning grant for investigating the educational uses of blogs has been approved, and I am genuinely excited to be working with all of you on this project. I have created this "plog" (project log) as a resource for our team and a space for us to reflect. I will be making this a group log, so we can all post. Thank you, again, for agreeing to work with me on this project.
